Apple and Samsung Chirping as the Most Dominant Smartphone Brands

Written by: Bradley Braganza

APPLE AND SAMSUNG CHIRPING AS THE MOST DOMINANT SMARTPHONE BRANDS

Apple and Samsung, two powerhouse corporations in their own respect deliver some of the best smartphone experiences on the market. Capable of offering premium quality smartphones packed with the latest technological innovations, both companies have maintained a high level of transparency on social media, and Twitter is no exception.
Each company post on a daily basis, sometimes several times a day; meaning it was very difficult to find a day or two that there wasn’t at least 1 post of retweet made by the corporation. With 11.6 million followers on Twitter, @SamsungMobile’s Twitter page is actually quite similar to their Facebook page, in that most of their content features their own products, as it should perhaps due “sell sell sell” is definitely something Samsung seems to be pushing with newer and newer technology and more and more marketing of that technology to consumers and other businesses.                  Some keywords and key takeaways that came to mind after viewing their website definitely were innovation, creativity and beauty, funny enough. Friendly reminders of how far along the company has come; from where it was to where it is now, is a touching and heart-felt keepsake, however I was curious as to how receptive these GIFs would be to an individual that didn’t in fact own a Samsung device.

In contrast, @Apple Music’s Twitter page is somewhat of a different experience with over 8.31 million followers. Through my experience, I found myself wandering through a maze of videos and images of actors, musicians, albums, movie posters and images of the night sky; images that took me all over the world. Both retweets and tweets made by the company and from other individuals incorporated a vast array of other user’s accounts and stories, I was left entranced by the bright and
immersive images that glowed from the screen and was left wanting to learn more. This did in fact take me off to certain websites where my attention and focus was not so for the risk of going off on a tangent, alas,
I digress. No mention to products and services such as their #iphones or #ipads, apple tv, etc., only the experience. And in conclusion, I believe that that is all Apple is looking for when marketing on Twitter.

Finally, I will say that both corporations strive in its excellence to understand their consumers and what their consumers would like, brand identities for both companies are well established and clearly both companies know exactly what it is they are doing. Amidst all these marketing tactics, I personally am slightly in favour of the Samsung Twitter page for their ability to hone in and focus on technology and their much larger amount of retweets largely due to the new #GalaxyS7 and #GalaxyS7edge smartphones just released. The idea of Samsung vs Apple’s Twitter page, which does not quite get as much, I found myself more interested in the content that Samsung producing. That is just my personal opinion, but much love and respect for the Apple and the work that they do.
